Alpha
Director StatementI created this film because I found a lot of hypocrisy in the masculine culture I was surrounded by. In my early years of college, I was working in a nightclub and there were a lot of people telling me how to be an "alpha" male. I was struggling with my identity and these patriarchal character traits everyone wanted me to adopt. I was nerdy, and goofy, and had no "game" to speak of. While this was happening a friend called me a beta male, not as an insult, but he genuinely thought that I was lesser. I remembered that feeling for a while, and I wrote this as a way to process that. It's a satire on masculine culture and a reflection on how someone shapes their identity to fit the mold.
