Forbidden Fruit
Logline: A black pre-teen has to find a way to fend for himself when his family can't afford food.
Project Summary: Our film is about life in a food desert told from the perspective of a little boy named Wendell. He has to fend for himself while juggling the responsibilities of childhood due to his mother working so often. Stylistically this project will be utilizing "structured reality" similar to the style of Nomadland. Our cast is small, four people total, with two of whom being children who will lead the project. The plan is to cast kids who are close to this reality, in an attempt to bring authenticity to the subject matter. By the end of the project, the theme that will be on display is that the youth need guidance. A second theme is that some people fight the hardest battles when no one is watching. It's a call to action for people to help those who might be struggling to navigate the world. Throughout this film Wendell will navigate life as he grows up as a minority without privilege. He'll navigate religion, racial identity, and morality as he tries to survive. |
